The Echizen procession coverage report of
the 59th Ooka Echizen festival 2014

The Ooka Echizen festival, which is one of the four major festivals of Chigasaki this year was held on April 19th and 20th. A total of 13 foreign men and women who are studying Japanese in a Sunday classroom participated in the Echizen parade on Sunday. They wore Tomo-samurai and Tekomai costumes.
The parade participants assembled at Chigasaki Elementary School. They included the musical band of Kanagawa Prefectural Police, the Smile Chigasaki, Mayor of Chigasaki, A brass band , Bon festival dance, unicycles and the baton team.

Students from Sunday's classroom turn in the Echizen parade came later in the procession. Leader of the parade were Yakko and Ooka Echizen No-kami Tadsuke as he rode horseback, performed by Hirose, Chigasaki City Council chairman. They were followed by wife of Ooka Echizen no-kami, many Tomo-samurai and Tekomai and a Chamber maid. They wore beautiful costumes borrowed from Shochiku. Before the parade began, students took group photos of other participating groups. Teachers also came to the parade to support their students.
Unfortunately the day was cold and cloudy. Parade participants marched vigorously toward the end at north exit of the shopping center.

Many residents came to watch the parade. Most of the people centered around Chigasaki station. There was much public encouragement from the Emeraude roadside.
Cheers to everyone for their good work!
