On Saturday, November 15th, under a clear autumn sky,
The first Annual English Speech Contest was held at Aletheia Shonan High
School Robinia-hall.
About 80 people visited the hall and it was filled to near capacity
Students in their respective school uniforms were a little nervous before
presenting their speeches. But after reciting their speeches, nerves calmed
down by the nice applause from the audience!
The rationale of this competition is for Aletheia Shonan High School to
promote global education with the cooperation of Mr. Fujino (former director
of IAC) and the IAC organization.
Purpose is to promote opportunities for those interested in English wishing to study global and international relations.
Only students from Chigasaki and Samukawa are eligible to participate in
this competition. Students may go to high schools outside of Chigasaki
and Samukawa, but must be residents of these respective cities.

| After eight student speeches, guest speaker Ms. Kitano (lecturer from Bunkyo
University) performed example of ideal speech "Who makes our clothes".
Everyone in the audience listened intently. |
|
|
While waiting for the examination results, in a peaceful and calm atmosphere, all parties meet with one another.
Handmade delicious snacks from members of International Association of
Chigasaki, English conversation group, in addition to refreshments, were
served to all. The snacks proved to be quite popular! |

Examination results:
"Mayor's Prize" was awarded to Noyuri Zama, from Aletheia Shonan High School.
The "Award" was presented to, Chihiro Watanabe, from Yokohama
Senior High School of International Studies.
The other students were awarded each prize of the sponsoring organizations
and Participation Award. |

At this tournament, two students from Areseia Shonan High School gain great
experience and a learning opportunity. One student acted as competition
moderator and the second worked at the reception desk.
Through the cooperation of International Association of Samukawa, as a
co-host with IAC, it was possible to have this exchange. |

IAC wishes to especially thank Samukawa International Association, Areseia
Shonan High School, Chigasaki City and Samukawa City. We also would like
to thank all of the organizations that came together to participate in
this competition.
And thank you very much to the eight high school students who gave great
speeches that remain in the minds of everyone. This tournament provides
the first steps of opportunities for our children.
